Dr Siobhan Banks

University of South Australia

Dr Siobhan Banks will deliver a Keynote exploring how human-centred design can support the development, evaluation, and effective workplace adoption of new technologies. Siobhan is Director of the Behaviour-Brain-Body Research Centre at Adelaide University. She works with 24/7 workplaces to enhance individual and team performance, health, and well-being.

She has delivered research for organisations including the NHMRC, NIH, NASA (via NSBRI), the US Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Beyond Blue, SA Health, Thales UK, Lockheed Martin Australia, Naval Group Australia, the Defence Innovation Hub, the US Naval Postgraduate School and DSTG.Siobhan’s accolades include the SA Young Tall Poppy Science Award (2010), the Sleep Research Society Young Investigator Award (2011), the Australian Council Graduate Research Award for Industry Engagement (2019), and a finalist position in the ADM Women in Defence Awards – R&D Category (2021).


Anne Leadbeater OAM

Presentation Title: Recovery and biosecurity - what happens after?

Anne is an independent consultant specialising in disaster recovery and community resilience. She has 30 years’ experience working in the community sector and across all levels of government. Anne has supported communities recovering from drought, fire, flood, cyclone and earthquake in Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and New Zealand. 

Anne also designs and delivers training for recovery practitioners and develops national policy, most recently co-authoring the Australian Disaster Recovery Framework for the Commonwealth Government. Anne lives in Kinglake, Victoria and was awarded a medal of the Order of Australia for her work in the aftermath of the 2009 ‘Black Saturday’ bushfires.

Melanie Mark-Shadbolt

Kaihautū Ngātahi – Co-Director Māori

Melanie is of Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāti Porou, Te Arawa, Te Āti Awa, Ngāti Raukawa and Ngāti Tūwharetoa descent. She is an indigenous environmental sociologist, passionate about the environment, indigenous rights and the empowerment of communities to manage their own resources. Melanie reprised her BioHeritage role as Kaihautū Ngātahi – Co-Director Māori in April 2023, working in partnership with Co-Director, Daniel Patrick, on strategic priorities and building strategic links with Māori and indigenous researchers, groups and entities.

In addition to her BioHeritage mahi, Melanie is the Chief Executive of Te Tira Whakamātaki, also providing governance, direction and support to a number of boards and groups including the Resilience to Nature’s Challenges National Science Challenge, the Project Crimson Trust, the Collaboration Council at B3 Better Border Biosecurity, Tāpui Aotearoa, and more recently was the former Deputy Secretary – Tūmatakōkiri (Maori Rights and Interest) for the Ministry for the Environment.
