A short and relaxing option to explore the key sites of Yidinji Country including the Majestic Cathedral Fig Tree and Lake Barrine. Depart from Pullman Cairns International Hotel at 8am, and journey to the 500-year-old Cathedral Fig where you will join a cultural presentation delivered by our local Aboriginal guides. View cultural tools and weapons, as well as tribal maps and photos of the early 1900’s as local guides explain the history of the Tablelands, the impacts on local Indigenous groups, and the cultural lifestyles of the Yidinji people. You will then take a short 100m walk in to the rainforest to view the Fig Tree itself and learn about it’s important role in cultural traditions and how it has protected Yidinji people during the early settlement days. We then journey to Lake Barrine where we will enjoy a simple morning tea and coffee and an opportunity to chat with your guide before taking a short 75m walk beside the lake to view the 1000 year old ancient Kauri Pines. Here, you will also learn about the creation of the lakes and how an ancient story has been confirmed and dated by modern science.
