Indigenous views and preferences to define user-friendly information

ESA abstract

The uptake of science information challenges researchers to think beyond traditional ways of producing, communicating, and disseminating research by being responsive to the diverse needs and preferences of audiences. Good science communication does not often happen by chance but is based on strategic and selective design centred around the target audience. By scientists strategically selecting methods that increase absorption by the targeted end-user it widens the opportunity for it to inform their decision-making and increase learnings. Focusing on the practical principles of science uptake is leading to the creation of new frameworks and strategies with user preferences at the core. The presentation will focus upon Indigenous-defined preferences by assessing views and tips on how information delivery and uptake can be strengthened. Empirically defining user satisfaction is a crucial metric that has not been well examined. This measure of success is important for supporting the progressive shift to eliciting, listening, and responding to audience needs rather than anticipating and assuming audience needs. A key enabler for future science and technology is recognising and measuring end-user satisfaction given its transformational path from assumed to actual production of user-friendly information for our communities.
