BARB Outdoor tree protection workshop – Balancing sustainable development of our gardens with the needs of our trees.
BGANZ 2025 Abstract
With ever increasing pressures from visitation, events and development in our gardens, how can we balance the needs of our trees and the way they grow, with things that will kill them?
Our expert arborists from the BGANZ Arboriculture specialist group (BARB) will provide a workshop focused on contemporary tree management, the benefits our trees provide, the impacts unfettered development is having on our tree collections, and how we can work together to protect our trees and develop our gardens around them whilst ensuring they live for as long as possible. Fresh and inspired by info/presentations in the earlier session, we will ask participants to contribute and workshop ideas on how to design events or developments in ways that are sensitive to trees.
It is our intention to deliver this workshop outdoors, hopefully amongst trees, in an environment where many participants may feel more comfortable, and inspired to contribute. A contingency for bad weather will be arranged.
